Pleural Mesothelioma is a lining oaf the lungs. It is different from the lung cancer which refers to any dangerous tumor that develops in the lungs. Pleural Mesothelioma is a formation of tumors on the pleura. When these tumors grow , they control the space available for the lungs to expand and their ability to expand. The Pleura [the fibrous tissues] are protecting our lungs by forming the lining of the chest.

They secrete a lubricating fluid which fills the gap between the two sections of Pleura.
This fluid is more helpful in the smooth movement of lungs when they are inflating and deflating as we breathe. Without this fluid the movement of the tissues  would cause friction. This friction will cause irritation and pain     to other organs and tissues of the pleural cavity.
